Left 4 Dead user-mods will work with Left 4 Dead 2

6 July 2009

Left 4 Dead fans the world over were up in arms a few weeks ago when Valve announced that it would be releasing a fully fledged sequel to the celebrated zombie blaster.
The complaints are routed in the argument that Valve has not provided adequate support for the game which many feel is too short and still requires additional DLC. With Valve bringing out a sequel many are complaining that the developer will not be providing the original game with the support it deserves. Furthermore, the release of a sequel just a year after the original release is likely to split the current L4D community.

Chet Faliszek has told Kikizo that all user-created content made for the original Left 4 Dead will be compatible with the sequel.

“For modders, everything they make in Left 4 Dead will work in Left 4 Dead 2,” Chet revealed during a recent London preview event. “It’ll work better if they bring it into Left 4 Dead 2 and recompile it for Left 4 Dead 2, using some of the additions we’ve made, but it’ll work out of the box as well. We just want to make sure that anyone who’s making a mod now knows that their time’s going to be well spent.”

This move should help appease many of the complainants and shows that Valve is at least attempting to satisfy the throngs of mutinous Left 4 Dead fans.
