Street Fighter II available as free browser game

13 July 2009

As part of Capcom’s marketing campaign for the newly released PC version of Street Fighter IV, the publisher has made a browser version of Street Fighter II available for free.

The sequel to 1987’s hit arcade beat-em-up, Street Fighter II was originally released in 1991 as a coin-operated arcade game. It went on to be released on numerous consoles and is credited with starting the fighting game boom of the 1990s. As of 2008 theSNES port of Street Fighter II was Capcom’s best-selling consumer game ever released.

The browser based port of Street Fighter II game is playable at Kongregate. Apart from occasional lag resulting from limited browser cache, the game looks and plays identically to the 90s classic.

It is recommended that one closes all other web-tabs while playing the game. If noticeable LAG is affecting  game play then it is recommended that players restart their browers.
