Alan Wake PC is uncertain

13 July 2009

Last month Microsoft revealed via a press release that the Xbox 360 version of the psychological action thriller ‘Alan Wake’ is due to be released in September 2010.

When it was announced at E3 2005 gamers expected it to be released on PS3 but later Microsoft acquired the publishing rights which thereby limited it to Xbox and PC.

Remedy Entertainment, the team responsible for the Max Payne franchise as well as the Alan Wake development, has made it clear that although the Xbox360 release is still on track the promised PC version that was set to accompany it may not be as certain as gamers might have hoped.

“We are fully concentrated on the Xbox 360 version, Other than the plans are up in the air and open,” lead writer Sam Lake told Edge Online . “Once we’re done with the 360 version we’ll evaluate the situation and see what makes sense.”

When asked specifically if the game will be coming to PC eventually Lake responded “As I said, the plans are open, and once we’re done with the 360 version we’ll evaluate the situation and see what makes sense.”

If these comments are anything to go by then gamers hoping to get their hands on the PC version may end up waiting until 2011, if it is released at all.

In terms of gameplay Alan Wake will play out in an episodic format and forms part of a larger story that is due to feed into sequels. Although the game is based on an open world platform the story will still give the majority of direction players.

In the game Alan Wake is a bestselling author who hasn’t written in over two years. In order to reinvigorate his creative flow his wife, Alice, takes him to the small town of Bright Falls where she subsequently goes missing. Wake then finds himself trapped in a nightmare where he is trapped in his latest thriller; a book he can’t remember writing.
