German Starcraft II to be less graphic

2 September 2009

Blizzard has announced that the German version of Starcraft II will be less bloody than the global release.
In a recent interview a Blizzard representative said that the company has plans to change the colour of the blood or remove it entirely. Earlier reports indicate that Diablo III will undergo the same process for its German release reports Tom’s Hardware.

“We [don’t] want to offend anyone, but at the same time, we are working very passionately to develop the best product possible,” said lead 3D artist for Starcraft, Allen Dilling. “And specifically we are working on all the animations, so we do not want to see the [edits]. Here we are so very carefully trying to find the right path and give the fans what they want, without being insensitive. So it’s a real balancing act.”

Ultimately Blizzard wishes to access the younger market in Germany when it releases Starcraft II and Diablo III. To do so it will have to tone down some of the more violent and graphic features in each game.
