Sony looking at casual Star Wars MMO?

6 September 2009

Rumor has it that Sony Online Entertainment is partnering with Lucas Arts to bring gamers a casual browser based MMO based on Star Wars : Clone Wars. According to Tentonhammer, Sony is looking to develop a Star Wars MMO using the browser based Free Realms engine.

The rumored MMO is unlikely to take on the highly anticipated Star Wars: The Old Republic which is an MMO in development by legendary RPG developer Bioware. Bioware is responsible for classics such as Baldur’s Gate and Mass Effect.

While many may scoff at the idea of a casual browser based Star Wars MMO in comparison to what Bioware is planning, it is important to note that Free Realms enjoys an active user base of over 5 million players.
