Modern Warfare 2 expansion scheduled for 2010

Update

As it turns out, Activision will be releasing two map packs for Modern Warfare 2 this year, and not an expansion pack.

Microsoft announced during its speech at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) that an expansion pack for the bestselling video game from Activision will be released this year for Xbox 360.

Activision later confirmed that the expansion will first be released for Xbox 360 and then later for PS3. No mention of a PC release was made.

Microsoft’s director of marketing Craig Beilinson then went on to list a number of high profile Xbox 360 exclusives including Crackdown 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Mass Effect 2, Fable 3, Alan Wake, Halo: Reach. Beilinson at the time included the Modern Warfare 2 expansion in his list, but as it turns out it will only be a timed exclusive.

It is no secret that the majority of copies sold of Modern Warfare 2 were for Xbox 360. The PC version of the game made up around 10 percent of the total unit sales for the game. Despite this international trend, In SA the game has sold best on PC.
