GTA 5 beta: it’s a scam

There’s some news floating around that a GTA 5 beta is on the way and asking gamers to sign up, but don’t, because no such beta has been announced.

The original updates appeared on a number of websites and Facebook pages, but Rockstar has not confirmed any of the mentioned beta opportunities.

Websites such as getgtavbeta.com and betagtav.com have been shut down by Take-Two, with cases against gta5betacode.com and grandtheftauto5beta.com currently pending.

The websites asked users to sign up for early beta access, and then allowed a file to be downloaded. It’s unsure what these files actually are, but they’re definitely not GTA V beta files.

Grand Theft Auto V is expected to launch worldwide on 17 September 2013, for PS3 and Xbox 360. No word on a PC version was given.
