DJ Hero highest grossing new IP in 2009

20 January 2010

Reports surfaced yesterday that Activision’s DJ Hero franchise has been declared the highest grossing intellectual property (IP) of 2009, perhaps buoyed by its $100 (R750) standard edition price and $200 (R1500) for the Renegade Edition.

According to publishers Activision the game generated more than any other new intellectual property released in 2009 in North America – as cited by an NPD report.

“DJ Hero has transformed music gaming by marrying an innovative turntable controller and exhilarating gameplay with the biggest artists and incredible music from around the world,” said Robert Kotick, CEO, Activision Blizzard in a press statement.

“Consumers and critics agree that DJ Hero is one of the best music games ever created and further establishes Guitar Hero(R) as the premier franchise of its kind.”

The fastest selling IP of 2009 was Gearbox developed Borderlands, which sold two million units worldwide in seven weeks.
