Windows 7 fastest selling OS ever

3 February 2010

Microsoft has announced that Windows 7 has become the fastest selling operating system (OS) ever released. This enabled the company to post record breaking results in its most recent financial quarter.

The hit OS has sold more than 60 million licenses globally since its launch in October 2009. It is now supposedly in use on 7.5-percent of the world’s PCs, an impressive feat considering it has only been available for just over 3 months.

Windows XP still has the largest install base with 66.3-percent of the world’s PCs.

“Exceptional demand for Windows 7 led to the positive top-line growth for the company. Our continuing commitment to managing costs allowed us to drive earnings performance ahead of the revenue growth,” said Peter Klein, chief financial officer at Microsoft.

Microsoft recently announced its biggest revenue results ever, taking in $19.02 billion in the first financial quarter of 2010 (October 09 – December 09).
