No plans for Dead Space 2 on PC

10 February 2010

Following the release of its 2011 fiscal year line up yesterday, mega publisher EA has confirmed that it has no plans to release upcoming horror shooter Dead Space 2 on PC.

Speaking to Blue’s News an EA representative revealed that “as of right now a PC sku is not in the plan”, no reason why was given.
This is particularly puzzling given the publisher’s confirmation three months ago that it would indeed be releasing a PC version alongside an Xbox 360 and PS3 port.

According to executive producer Steve Papouts in a EA press release Dead Space will throw players back into the action wherin “the infection continues to spread throughout space and our hero Isaac Clarke is the only person able to contain it. There are still loads of Necromorphs that need killing,”
“In Dead Space 2, not everything is exactly as it seems. Expect plot twists that will surprise you and a huge cast of twisted, disgusting monsters that are sure to scare the daylights out of you.”

Despite generally positive reviews, Dead Space 2’s predecessors Dead Space and Dead Space Extraction have yielded average sales figures for EA. Nonetheless EA CEO John Riccitiello has previously referred to the franchise as a “long term big winner for us”.

A recent study by market research group NPD showed that survival horror titles such as Resident Evil and Left 4 Dead are some of the most popular among gamers. EA may be hoping to better take advantage of this market with Dead Space 2.
