Electronic Arts has announced the next Need for Speed game that will be drifting onto current and next-gen platforms and PC – Need for Speed Rivals.
The game is being developed by Criterion and Ghost Games, and will run on the new Frostbite 3 engine, bringing next-generation graphics, effects and features to the NFS world.
The new game will be set in Redview County, and will focus on the rivalry that exists between the high-stakes street racers and the county police force – as each side has to accumulate followers and supporters in order to win an “all out media war”.
The game will give you the chance to take on the role of a street-racer, using your high speed skill and quick-thinking to evade the cops, or you can play on the police’s side, teaming up with other forces to hunt down and immobilise the illegal racers.
Need for Speed Rivals will feature a new game system called All-Drive. All-Drive blurs the line between singleplayer and multiplayer gameplay, allowing players to seamlessly join a world with everyone else, without lobbies or waiting.
This allows for multiple people’s games to collide, as you’ll be trying to get into first place in your own race, when your friend’s police pursuit crosses your path. You can even alert friends of inbound cops; or playing as the cops, you can help co-ordinate road blocks and barriers to stop other racers.
Rivals will also feature deep customisation options, allowing you to enhance your car with performance upgrades, personalise your bodywork with fresh paintjobs, liveries, custom license plates, rims, and decals.
Need for Speed Rivals is scheduled to release “later this year”.
