Command & Conquer 4 will not feature LAN

22 February 2010

Last year when Blizzard announced that Star Craft II would be released sans LAN, PC bound RTS enthusiasts were up in arms.

While Command & Conquer 4 does not carry quite the same weight as Star Craft II, news that it will also lack LAN functionality will come as a blow to fans of the RTS genre that enjoy attending LAN parties.

EA also announced that the game will not feature dedicated servers, although this will hardly matter and only FPSs really require such services.

This is not the first bit of news regarding the game that has had gamers up in arms. When it was announced, EA confirmed that the game would require an always online internet connection to play, even in single player mode.

While this is likely designed in part to control piracy, the reality is that those who copy the game will not face the same inconveniences as those buy the game and agree to the always online requirement.
