Call of Duty DLC exceeds expectations

8 April 2010

Activision and Microsoft have revealed, to their delight, that the recently released Stimulus downloadable content package for Infinity Ward’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has “shattered Xbox LIVE records” by selling over 2.5 million downloads.

According to the companies, one million of these occurred within the first twenty four hours of availability.

According to Kotaku this netted the publisher $37 million in revenue – a clear sign that players of 2009’s most popular game were itching for some new content.

As a result of the high demand Microsoft revealed on Monday that the Xbox Live service was negatively affected, locking some players out of their accounts and preventing online play for several hours. In return the company offered those who purchased the package several days several days of free Xbox Live gold subscription.
