April game release calendar

9 April 2010

We have already enjoyed a generous selection of epic scale releases this year. So many in fact, that it almost feels like 2010 used up all its ammo in the first few months, leaving us scratching our heads, almost wondering what to expect from here on out.

It is hard to follow the likes of Mass Effect 2, Bad Company 2, God of War 3, Bioshock 2 and Heavy Rain, and pickings are indeed looking slim. April is easily the quietest month we have had in ages in terms of new releases. Thank goodness for my ever-growing pile of must-play titles. Apart from Metro 2033, and maybe Splinter Cell: Conviction, this month is looking almost completely skipable.

Don’t believe me? See for yourself…

Supreme Commander 2 April 9 Xbox 360
Resonance of Fate April 9 Xbox 360
Borderlands DLC pack April 13 PC, Xbox 360
Metro 2033 April 15 PC, Xbox 360
GTA: Tales from Liberty City April 16 PC
Dead to Rights: Retribution April 16 PS3, Xbox 360
Splinter Cell Conviction April 16 (30 for PC) PC, Xbox 360
FIFA 2010 Worldcup SA April 23 Xbox 360, PS3
Dawn of War II: Chaos Rising Out now PC
GTA IV Platinum TBA PS3
Nier TBA Xbox 360

Alright so maybe I was a touch harsh. Soccer fans have yet another FIFA game to look forward to, and Splinter Cell Conviction looks bound for greatness. Metro 2033 has received mixed reviews, but is intriguing nonetheless.

Then there is Dead to Rights: Retribution, Nier and Resonance of Fate, which have managed to avoid the media spotlight for the most part. The first two Borderlands DLC expansions will be released on one handy disk, and Dawn of War II also gets its first disk based update. GTA IV finally hits Sony’s Platinum range and PC owners will be able to play the Tales from Liberty City chapters.

Things could be worse in April, but then they could be better. I have to admit that I am secretly a little relieved that the onslaught of big-name new releases seems to be calming down. Back to Bad Company 2 for me then…
