New WoW horse earns R14,600,000 in 4 hours

16 April 2010

We all know that since Blizzard’s hit MMORPG World of Warcraft really started spreading its wings a few years ago, the company has virtually been printing money.

As if the 11 million odd monthly paying subscribers were not enough, Blizzard also has a store, where users can spend even more cash on the MMO.

To give you an idea, Blizzard’s just released “Celestial Steed” just made $2 million in 4 hours. According to Blizzard, the new mount was “freshly born from the Twisting Nether” and allows players to “travel in style astride wings of pure elemental stardust.”

For just (*cough) $25 (R180), you can buy your very own Celestial Horse, which is essentially a cosmetic gimmick, and has no functional advantages over a regular running mount.

Despite this, 80,000 players downloaded the mount in the first 2 hours of it being available. So, 80,000 x $25 = $2 Million. 2,000,000 x 7.3 = R14,600,000.

Nice one, Blizzard.
