Monkey Island 2 SE features development legends

28 April 2010

After the success of the Monkey Island 1 Special Edition, fans were delighted when LucasArts made the (inevitable) announcement that there would be a high definition remake of its venerated sequel.

LucasArts has confirmed that veteran game designers and Monkey Island 2 creators Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer and Dave Grossman will “be lending their trademark wit and humour to select areas in the game.”

“When playing, players will be able to hear the three’s insights into key areas of the game and get insight into making the original game as well as their thoughts on the new Special Edition treatment,” said the statement from LucasArts.

It appears that the trio will appear as silhouettes in the lower right portion of the screen, Mystery Science Theatre style.

For those who weren’t fortunate (or old) enough to have enjoyed the original during the golden age of computer adventure games, the arrival of this title should not be passed up. If the quality of the Monkey Island 1 SE remake is anything to go by, the (arguably better) Monkey Island 2 game is bound to be a grog-swilling, loogie spitting, Big Whoop hunting fiesta of piratey fun.

The game will be distributed via digital download to the good ‘ol PC platform, as well as those new-fangled Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, iPod and iPod touch platforms. There is no official release date as of yet, but it is promised for a northern hemisphere summer time release, meaning we could have our salt-soaked and calloused hands on it within the next few months.
