Call of Duty 7 makes global debut tomorrow night

29 April 2010

Despite the veritable poo storm that is currently gathering over Activision HQ, with a legal battles and now the resignation of CEO Mike Griffith, the mega-publisher will be giving the world a first look at the seventh Call of Duty title tomorrow night via GameTrailers TV.

Maintaining their trademark switcheroo development process, Activision is employing Treyarch to work on CoD 7, which is widely thought to be set in Vietnam. Treyarch was responsible for Call of Duty 3 and Call of Duty 5: World at War. While Treyarch’s iterations of the Call of Duty franchise have always been perceived as the warm ups to Infinity Ward’s releases (Call of Duty 1&2, 4, and most recently Modern Warfare 2), World at War was a significant improvement over CoD 3, so hopes are high for CoD 7.

Online PC gamers should be optimistic, as a leak late last month confirmed that dedicated servers will be present in CoD 7. The same leak also dubbed the game “Call of Duty: Black Ops,” and hinted that players would be taken to Cuba and South America.

In the meantime, Activision’s golden egg laying hen – Infinity Ward – is currently in the process of falling apart, and with most of the senior development team no longer involved, it remains to be seen what sort of product the studio comes up with in the release of Call of Duty 8/Modern Warfare 3.
