PS3 overtakes Xbox 360 in Europe

7 May 2010

Since it released the PS3 Slim late last year, Sony has been steadily gaining ground on Microsoft in terms of worldwide console sales.

While they are still around 5 million units behind Microsoft, the gap is closing, and this largely thanks to strong support from European gamers.

Last week, according to VGChartz, Sony overtook Microsoft, and has now sold 15.45 million PS3s in Europe, as opposed to Microsoft’s 15.38 million Xbox 360s.

Of course the Wii still dominates in Europe, as well as the rest of the world, with 27.33 million units sold in Europe, and a ridiculous 70.75 million worldwide.

Fortunately for Microsoft, North America remains an Xbox 360 stronghold and has sold 22.99 million units in the region, while Sony has only sold 13,78 million units.
