During BlizzCon 2013, World of Warcraft: Warlords of Draenor was unveiled – the fifth expansion to the MMO. No release date was announced
WoW has seen a steady decline in subscriber numbers in recent years, from a high of 12-million in late 2010, to the most recent figure of 7.6-million reported by Activision-Blizzard during in early November 2013.
A new expansion usually has the effect of boosting numbers. To lure in old and new players, the expansion will enable anyone to instantly boost one character to level 90, including a newly created character. The new level cap is 100.
Warlords of Draenor will introduce spruced up character models and animations for the older World of Warcraft playable races, bringing them up to the standards of newer races.
On top of the expected new Zones, Dungeons, Raids, Scenarios, Battlegrounds, etc, Blizzard also promised questing improvements designed to encourage exploration and add unpredictability to players’ ongoing adventures.
Blizzard explained that once players arrive on Draenor they will be able to construct their own Garrison, an expandable, customizable stronghold that will serve as each player’s personal base of operations throughout the course of the expansion. As the Garrison grows, players will be able to recruit NPC allies and followers to take up residence, gathering resources and embarking on missions on the player’s orders.
Warlords of Draenor features
- New continent of Draenor (7 zones, 1 PvP zone)
- 6 new Dungeons and 2 new Raids
- Heroic versions of 2 classic Dungeons
- New Challenge modes
- New Battlegrounds and World Bosses
- New Normal and Heroic Scenarios
- Level cap raised to 100
- New class talents and permanent ability bonuses
- Refined quest system with hundreds of new quests
Players will visit the world of Draenor at a pivotal moment in history to fight against and alongside legends from Warcraft’s brutal past.
Across Draenor’s savage jungles and battle-scarred plains, Azeroth’s heroes will engage in a mythic conflict involving mystical draenei champions and mighty orc clans, and cross axes with the likes of Grommash Hellscream, Blackhand, and Ner’zhul at the height of their primal power. Players will need to scour this unwelcoming land in search of allies to help build a desperate defense against the old Horde’s formidable engine of conquest—or else
