Games launching this week

11 November 2013

The big games this week include XCOM: Enemy Within, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus, SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow, World of Warplanes, and Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition.

XCOM: Enemy Within – 15 November 2013 (Xbox 360, PS3, PC)

This is a standalone expansion to 2012’s fantastic XCOM: Enemy Unknown. It will stick to the core storyline, and introduce new weapons and technologies to discover and research, suped up robotic units, and a new enemy faction named EXALT.

There will be over 30 new maps, and the old maps will be spiffed up as well.

SimCity: Cities of Tomorrow – 15 November 2013 (PC)

The SimCity expansion Cities of Tomorrow will give players the tools to build a futuristic city in their SimCity universe, such as new MegaTowers that will dwarf your SimCity skyscrapers, futuristic vehicles, and service drones.

Players will have to choose whether to go for corporate consumerism or a green utopia by aspiring towards resource-hungry mega corporations or using clean technology to create a shiny, tree-hugging eco-city.

Being 50 years in the future, there will also be new futuristic disasters, such as a giant robot which will arrive to destroy your city.

The Cities of Tomorrow Limited Edition expansion is priced at R269.99 on Origin.

Baldur’s Gate 2: Enhanced Edition – 15 November 2013 (PC)

Beamdog will return gamers to the Forgotten Realms with their HD remake of  Baldur’s Gate II – it includes the adventures Shadows of Amn and Throne of Bhaal, and an arena combat mode, The Black Pits 2: Gladiators of Thay.

The original game launched in September 2000 and became a classic of that era of CRPG. The Enhanced Edition features full HD resolution support, area art remastered from the original renders, and lighting tweaks.

Additionally, the game bundles four new allies – including Hexxat – each with their own unique quest storylines.
