Don’t expect anything new from Capcom (at least not in English)

17 May 2010

Japanese mega publisher and developer Capcom has announced that it plans to stop investing in new games developed in the West.

“As a group, the new titles where development was led from abroad didn’t do so well,” citing prime examples Dark Void and Bionic Commando, which were both pretty forgettable.

After aiming for 2 million sales on Dark Void, the publisher was disappointed with the feeble 520,000 units sold. Apparently no one told them that if you want to shift 2 million units, you can’t release utter trash.

Capcom is not done with Western audiences though, and will still use US/European studios to develop sequels, and remakes of currently established franchise titles.
