Hot on the heels of the news that Ubisoft would probably be following EA’s lead with a US$10 fee for playing rented, borrowed and second hand games online, Ubisoft reveals that it has five new MMO titles in the pipeline.
Speaking on a post-earnings conference call, CFO Alain Martinez and CEO Yves Guillemot, gave an outline of the five new projects. The games will be free-to-play and will include titles such as Trackmania and Heroes of Might and Magic. The Heroes of Might and Magic MMO is currently in closed beta, but there is still an opportunity to join in for those interested. Apparently, little to no more information was given on the other 3 MMO titles in the works.
There are also plans to develop high quality games for Xbox Live Arcade and the PlayStation Network, as well as plans for downloadable content for the Microsoft Project Natal and Sony PlayStation Move motion sensing peripherals.
Ubisoft is also eyeing Facebook as a platform for interacting with its customers, but we might also expect some of their IP to arrive in a social-networking game format.
