Rock Band 3 to debut a keytar peripheral. Seriously.

27 May 2010

That Rock Band 3 is getting some sort of keyboard type thing is already official, of course.  The Rock Band: Green Day demo dropped the other day, showing off a splash screen teaser for the sequel that featured a keys icon in the lineup.

Now, this is still officially a rumour, but Ars Technica vouches for their corporate mole, and the corporate mole says it’s happening – Rock Band 3 is getting not a boring keyboard, but a keyTAR peripheral. It’s like I died and went to wherever it is that my secret electro superstar dreams come true.

For those people out there who missed the 80s, a keytar is a combination keyboard guitar, and it’s the most mega ultra kiff thing in the universe this side of neon shuffle socks and Erasure’s back catalogue. Shoulder pads and mullets sold separately, presumably.

Also according to Ars Technica’s source, the game features a new “Pro” mode that somehow requires “proper technique”. I can already see the derisive comments on YouTube from disgruntled “real” musicians who keep forgetting Rock Band is a game.
