Elder Scrolls V announced by Bethesda (debunked)

2 June 2010

Update

Looks like we got punked. After receiving a tip from a reader earlier, we were lead to an article on Planetelderscrolls. The post seemed legit, and there was no indication that it was a prank. We just realised thanks to another observant reader that the original source article was posted on April 1.

Original

In a press event held in London today, Bethesda announced a new entrant to its wildly popular fantasy RPG series.

Here is what we know so far:

– The game will be released next year for PS3, 360, PC, Wii and iPhone

– It is not a direct sequel to Oblivion

– The game will be an RPG, and will be “the same type of game” as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

– Bethesda will not be developing the game using its own in house team. Instead, indie developer Armor Games will be creating the new game.

– The game’s working subtitle is “Alinor”

– The game will bring “ fast-paced, easy-to-grasp action” to the series

– Although no game engine was specified, a Bethesda representative said we can “make educated guesses.”

– Rumours indicate that The Rock and Christian Bale will be doing voice work for the game.

That’s it for now, although Bethesda said that they will show more when they are ready, so watch this space.

Thanks for the tip Maplassie
