You played The Secret of Monkey Island Special Edition, of course. You didn’t? THERE ARE NO WORDS FOR HOW DISGUSTING YOU ARE. Steam currently has it at a criminally, piratically reasonably $9.99 (around R77 or so), or you can grab it from Xbox LIVE or PSN for around about the same.
Meanwhile, the sequel is prepping its elusive three-headed monkeys for a PSN launch next week 6 July, and a PC, Xbox launch the following day. Much like its Special Edition predecessor, this one’s packing completely revamped 1080p HD visuals (hot-swappable with the original pixeltastic SVGA, if you’re terminally sentimental about this sort of stuff; obviously not the 11 floppy disk installation, though), as well as a full voice cast, and a Mystery Science Theater 3000-style developer commentary with Ron Gilbert, Tim Schafer, and Dave Grossman. And this time around, console players get to move Guybrush around on the analogue sticks, because that makes obvious good sense and everything. All versions are tagged at $10.
Now we just need an announcement that LucasArts is remaking Escape From Monkey Island for a Special Edition release. Completely remaking, I mean. That game was ****.
