Bobby Kotick reckon 60% of XBL subscriptions exist for COD

According to Activision Blizzard’s big cheese Bobby Kotick, 60% of users who subscribe to Microsoft’s Xbox live Gold service do so in order to play a call of duty game. 

“We’ve heard that 60 per cent of [Microsoft’s] subscribers are principally on Live because of Call of Duty,” Kotick said speaking to the Financial Times

He pointed out that even though they believe around 60% of XBL Gold users pay their subscription in order to play Activision’s CoD games, they don’t get any of that cash. But from the sounds of things, they are looking to possibly change that in the future. 

“Consoles do a very good job of supporting the gamer,” Kotick said. “If we are going to broaden our audiences, we are going to need to have other devices,” going on to state that Activision will  “very aggressively” support devices that connect PCs to tellys.”

“I would have Call of Duty be an online subscription service tomorrow,” he said, indicating that Xbox Live may be the only thing keeping CoD free to play apart from the Gold subscription. For now…
