In a pretty unexpected move, Activision has released a single player Modern Warfare 2 demo on PSN and Xbox Live, almost a year after the game was released and broke the record for the biggest entertainment launch of all time.
The game has since gone on to sell around 20 million units, and has become a firm staple multiplayer FPS over Xbox Live, PSN and PC.
The demo allows gamers to play through the famous snow covered Cliffhanger mission which involves climbing a sheer cliff face with ice picks, using the cover of a blizzard to creep through an enemy encampment, and eventually stealing a snow mobile to escape on.
Demos are traditionally released before a game comes out so that we can give it a try before purchasing it. It is difficult to understand the value proposition of a demo 9 months after the game was released, especially since Modern Warfare 2 has yet to receive a price cut.
To confuse things even more, Activision is gearing up to release Call of Duty: Black Ops in November.
PSN and Xbox Live Gold users can grab the demo now, and Xbox Live Silver members will get it next week.
