Activision has a knack for being creative with special editions, especially when it comes to the Call of Duty franchise. Their inclusion of functional night vision goggles with the Modern Warfare 2 Prestige Edition made headlines, and it was easily one of the most desirable special editions ever.
It looks like they have taken it one step further with the planned Prestige Edition for Call of Duty: Black Ops.
If you have watched the multiplayer footage released earlier this week, then you will know that players will be able to pilot a radio controlled car rigged with explosives. Well, those who buy the Prestige Edition will get their very own radio controlled car (confirmation on rigged explosives pending). What makes it especially awesome however, is that the car will feature a built in 220×176 colour camera, with a screen on the remote. This will provide a live video feed from the front of the car.
Apart from this awesome toy, the Prestige Edition will also include a Collector’s Medal, 4 extra playable co-op maps, exclusive Black Ops Xbox Live avatar outfit/PS Home avatar, and a Special Edition SteelBook case.
The Prestige Edition will cost $149.99 in the US. One of our moles told us that we will most probably be getting the prestige edition in SA, but could not give a price estimation. There will also be a Hardened Edition, which will include everything in the Prestige Edition except for the car and will cost $79.99.
