It’s no surprise that publishers are not proponents of the second hand games market. On one hand, many argue that there is no lost sale, as the person buying the second hand copy of God of War III 4 months after release for R350 was never going to shell out the full retail price for a new copy anyways.
However, THQ’s Cory Ledesma feels like publishers are being “cheated.”
“I don’t think we really care whether used game buyers are upset because new game buyers get everything,” THQ’s creative director for wrestling titles told Gamasutra. “So if used game buyers are upset they don’t get the online feature set I don’t really have much sympathy for them” said THQ’s Cory Ledesma.
“That’s a little blunt but we hope it doesn’t disappoint people. We hope people understand that when the game’s bought used we get cheated,”
