Torchlight headed to Xbox Live and PlayStation Network

25 August 2010

Runic games told Joystiq that it is in the process of bringing its sleeper hit PC RPG Torchlight to consoles.

Speaking at Gamecom, Runic’s Max Schaefer said that although there is no current release window, they are hoping to get it out by “the holidays.” We’re going to assume he is referring to the December holidays.

In the same talk Schaefer declared that Runic has sold over 750,000 units, and has the 1 million mark firmly in its sights.

Torchlight is a basic hack ‘n slash RPG that was released towards the end of 2009. It won gamers and critics alike over with its old school gameplay, cartoony visuals, and low price point. Part of its success lies in the the fact that fans of the hack ‘n slash RPG genre have not been well served over the past few years, as well as the growing anticipation of Diablo III.

Schaefer also said that Torchlight 2 for console was a possibility, but this would only come after the PC release.
