According to Sucker Punch’s Darren Bridges, their upcoming PS3 exclusive Infamous 2 is too demanding to be made for the Xbox 360. Not only is this the case, but the game is supposedly only using around 50 percent of the PS3’s firepower.
“When we say it probably couldn’t be done on the other console, we’re talking strictly horsepower” Bridges told CVG.
“Maybe it can be, but we just don’t feel like the other console has the horsepower to carry this off.”
He does back off slightly however, admitting that “it’s pure speculation, [Sucker Punch has] no idea of whether we can do it because we don’t work on Xbox or any other console,” which sort of nullifies his entire statement.
He does make a good point though, stating that “we don’t have to play to the lowest denominator of the consoles. We’re playing to the PS3 and we’re making a game that we can make, technology isn’t limiting us.” Essentially, creating a game exclusively for one console means that you don’t have to find common ground between platforms. Instead, you can focus on the strengths of the particular platform, which is why platform exclusives are often so technologically impressive.
Infamous 2 is the direct sequel to 2009’s PS3 exclusive Infamous, and it is due out sometime next year.
