Sega announces Captain America: Super Soldier

6 October 2010

Sega has announced that it is developing Captain America: Super Solider for release sometime next year on PS3, XBox 360, Wii, DS and PSP.

Many people do not know that Captain America was originally created partly as a propaganda tool to aid the American war effort against the Nazis in 1941. The story behind the character was that he was created using an experimental serum and his primary purpose was to give the allies an edge over the krauts.

After the war, Captain America became redundant, until he was bought back to life as part of the Avengers, where he fought alongside other superheroes: Thor; Iron Man; and The Hulk.

The fact that the game will take Captain America back to his roots makes the project a little more interesting than if it was a simple rehash of the modern superhero. He will go up against his arch nemesis, the nazi super-agent Red Skull. The game will focus on hand-to-hand combat, and will be played from a third person perspective. Captain America will have his indestructible shield, and the game is expected to be released alongside the upcoming film on which it is based.
