Local CoD: Black Ops servers on track for midnight launch

8 November 2010

Activision’s seventh iteration of its massively popular Call of Duty franchise, Black Ops, is set to launch tomorrow. The following local retailers will be hosting midnight launch parties:

BTGames: East Rand Mall, Fourways Mall, Menlyn, Cavendish, Tyger Valley, Canal Walk, Pavilion.

Zaps: Brightwater Commons – Randburg.

Games-Xetra: Wilro Park, Northgate, Durbanville

The game will officially go on sale at 00:01, and gamers will be able to purchase their copy of Black Ops from then onwards, pending availability of course.

We got in touch with MWEB CEO Rudi Jansen, who confirmed that from their side, everything is on track for the servers to go live. As long as Gameservers activate on time, the servers should be accessible shortly after midnight.

We also got in touch with an iGame representative, who told us Gameservers have agreed activate the servers at midnight. As soon as this happens, iGame staff will be able to go into the console, and begin setting up server configurations. This should not take no longer than 30 minutes, so their 4 servers should be up and running by about 00:30, which means that super eager gamers should have servers to play on by the time they have finished installing the game.

iGame has confirmed that they will been running the following 4 servers:

iGame Black Ops servers

Full Metal Jacket – Hardcore

Platoon – Hardcore

L-Z – Vanilla

Gunship – Vanilla

Other ISP’s are expected to host their own servers, although all Black Ops servers are technically being hosted by MWEB on its network. Therefore, no ISP other than MWEB will have access to the server hardware.
