PS4 exclusives that deserve your attention

27 January 2016

Two and a half years into its release, and the PlayStation 4 is really hitting its stride.

We’ve been treated to some pretty awesome games, but which ones are the best of the bunch, so far at least?

2016 promises to be a year for the gamers, with a huge array of highly anticipated titles releasing, so here’s a summary of some of the best stuff for PS4.

Killzone Shadow Fall

The Killzone series gets shamefully overlooked when the topic of best FPS franchises comes up.

After a moderately successful entry on PS2 and two great follow-ups on PS3, the franchise jumps 20 years into the future for Killzone Shadow Fall.

It follows the events of Killzone 3, where the Helghast and Vektans (their mortal enemies) are living an uneasy alliance on the same planet.

The game features great weapons, intelligent AI and some impressive gadgets as well as scenarios to experience, not to mention it’s outrageously pretty to look at.

Bloodborne

Quite easily one of the best games on the system, Bloodborne combines gothic horror with a Lovecraftian fear of the unknown and that which we cannot understand.

Made by the same guys behind Dark Souls, Bloodborne is known to be pretty difficult – but never unfairly so. It has some great, tight combat and some pretty interesting weapons to play around with.

Until Dawn

If you’re a fan of classic horror stories, Until Dawn may be just the game for you.

From a distance, it looks an awful lot like those cheesy horror movies we all grew up with, involving teenagers and spooky things happening in some cabin in the woods.

However, Until Dawn messes with you just enough to provide an enjoyable experience. It also has some great characterisation going for it, if you’re into that kind of thing.

Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection

Technically, these are PS3 games, but this whole package is only available on PS4, so it counts, okay.

Comprising of Drake’s Fortune, Among Thieves and Drake’s Deception, the collection features the treasure hunting antics of Nathan Drake, as he spans the globe partaking in perilous white-knuckle adventures.

The series offers more than just a good plot. It has incredibly intuitive award-winning gameplay in and among the backdrop of some gorgeously luscious jungles, deserts and ancient cities.

It’s the perfect package to indulge in before Uncharted 4 hits in April.

Tearaway Unfolded

Tearaway was a critical hit when it came out in 2013, but its release on the underselling PS Vita handheld meant that not a lot of people got to play or appreciate its brilliance.

The console version gave the series a second-chance at reaching a mainstream audience.

Tearaway Unfolded takes the 3D platforming premise of the original, where the whole world is made entirely of paper, and folds it into the PS4s library.

The game allows you to fold or interact with the many paper objects found throughout each level, offering up interesting variations on puzzles you once knew.

It’s a cute and clever game that shouldn’t be neglected when looking for a fun and different gaming experience.

Until Dawn is a brilliant game, not worth the R700 I paid for, but it has a really good narrative and play through.
