PlayStation 4/Xbox One cross-play is ready

Psyonix Studios – the development studio behind the futuristic football-racing hybrid Rocket League, has figured out how to implement cross-platform play between PS4 and Xbox One players, GameSpot reports.

The implementation will require some time, but Psyonix is confident that they have made it possible for Xbox One and PlayStation 4 players to play Rocket League together.

“The only thing we have to do now is sort of find out where we stand politically with everyone, and then it’s full steam ahead to finish the solution that we’ve already started,” said the vice president of Psyonix.

The studio has solved the problem of cross-play between the two consoles and simply has to wait until both parties agree to implementing cross-play for Rocket League before it can go ahead.

Microsoft has previously announced its stance on cross-play with other consoles, effectively inviting Sony to connect their gaming networks and promoting the concept of cross-play between all platforms.

However, Sony has not been as open as Microsoft about its perspective on cross-play between the two consoles. Sony said that cross-play between PS4 and PC has happened and is not a problem for the company – failing to mention anything about the Xbox One.

The ambiguous response that Sony gave to Microsoft’s invitation concerning cross-platform multiplayer does not confirm or deny whether cross-play between consoles will happen any time soon – but if it does, Rocket League is ready and waiting.
