Epic broadband for gamers: 400Mbps fibre for R599

Many South African gamers are looking for the fastest broadband connection available to them which offers low latency and affordable bandwidth.

Cybersmart’s Lightspeed fibre-to-the-home (FTTH) service is a strong contender for the best broadband service available to gamers in South Africa.

The service offers speeds of up to 400Mbps, and subscribers can split their 400Mbps bandwidth as they wish – in real time.

For example, a user can start with a 200Mbps download/200Mbps upload configuration, and change it to a 300Mbps download/100Mbps upload setting when desired.

Setting either the download or upload speed to the maximum 400Mbps will result in the other stream being limited to 10Mbps (for example: 400Mbps download/10Mbps upload).

Users can also schedule the speed change to occur at a particular time. This is a useful feature, as the Lightspeed products include additional nighttime data which can be used for game updates and other large downloads.

Cybersmart CEO Laurie Fialkov told MyBroadband that latency on the service is under 2ms to a gaming server in Cape Town, and sub-150ms for international gaming.

“There is also no exchange contention on our fibre products, which eliminate this potential bandwidth bottleneck,” Fialkov said.

The service comes in two variations: 400Mbps FTTH with 20GB daytime data and 100GB nighttime data for R599, and 400Mbps FTTH with 200GB daytime data and 1,000GB nighttime data for R899.
