According to a report over on PC Gamer, Ubisoft has relaxed its controversial always-on DRM policies for some games. Games such as Assassin’s Creed 2, Splinter: Cell Conviction, and Settlers 7 previously required a constant internet connection during play, with any interruption pausing the game until it was resolved.
This was obviously extremely irritating for anyone with unreliable internet connectivity (basically, everybody in South Africa).
This has now been changed, with the DRM looking for an active internet connection at game launch only.
Ubisoft dropped the DRM system altogether for the recent release of RUSE, trading it for Steamworks’ own management policies.
