Incredible new gadget translates foreign languages while in your ear

23 May 2016

An incredible new gadget means that trying to understand someone who doesn’t speak your language could be a thing of the past.

The technology behind the Pilot Earphones has not yet been revealed, but creators Waverly Labs have described it as “special translation technology, embedded in an app”.

Pilot earphones currently only supports two users at a time (with future iterations hoping to add more) and can currently translate into English, French, Spanish and Italian.

A pair of Pilot earphones will cost $129 (R2,012) and can be pre-ordered directly from their website. No local price has been announced.

Of course it’s almost impossible to seperate this new technology from a certain “Babel Fish” described in The Hitchhiker’s guide to the Galaxy.

Except that the Babel Fish ate mental energy released during speaking and pooped out understandable language symbiotically.
