Microsoft offers PS3 hacker a free Windows Phone 7

20 January 2011

Back in olden times of olde, rivals whose otherwise noble dignity or moral convictions precluded brawling in the pub would insult one another with a delicate but humiliating slap, usually through the medium of a frilly glove and a bold declaration including words like “forsooth”, “knave”, or perhaps “ye rofl”.

That’s kind of what Microsoft has just done.

When George “GeoHot” Hotz – most recently (in)famous for publishing the PS3’s master security keys online, and breaking the console open to modding, piracy, alien invasion – announced on Twitter that he was looking to buy a Windows Phone 7, Microsoft’s Brandon Watson responded with:
“#geohot if you want to build cool stuff on #wp7, send me email and the team will give you a phone – let dev creativity flourish #wp7dev

Oh. Oh, burn.

Perhaps he can develop an app for managing his litigation schedules with Sony. Lawyer meetings and court dates and whatnot can really crowd a guy’s time.
