Yes, there will be a Modern Warfare 3 this year

21 January 2011

Despite the ongoing legal drama between Activision and certain erstwhile employees of Call of Duty developer Infinity Ward, it turns out that (surprise!) the annual franchise instalment is on schedule for its regular November launch.

According to a report on the LA Times, Activision has drafted one of its subsidiaries, Sledgehammer Games (founded by Dead Space creator Glen Schofield) to work on the single-player bits of the game, as well as Raven Software on multiplayer.

Although the game has yet to be officially announced (lol), it’s apparently “well into production”.

This will be the first Modern Warfare title produced without Infinity Ward’s Jason West and Vince Zampella, although it seems the inconvenience has chucked Activision’s own release schedule into some disarray by “by forcing Activision to delay the start of production on a new Call of Duty spin-off game that the studio had begun working on”.

That would probably be Call of Guitar Hero.
