A PSN gamer had his account temporarily banned and then revoked after Sony deemed his username too offensive.
The 26-year old banned gamer who’s real name and PSN username is “Jihad” received an email from Sony notifying him of a permanent ban due to having an “offensive username”.
Sony acknowledged that he had made several purchases on the account and offered the opportunity to change his username to something they deemed “less offensive” but so far have not implemented any changes.
Although the word “Jihad” has received negative connotations in recent years, its original meaning is “the spiritual struggle within oneself against sin”.
Part of the problem stems from the fact that Sony still does not allow you to change your username on its PSN service, something that can be done freely on Steam and for a paid cost on Xbox Live.
