Microsoft has confirmed that it’s taking away some of the complexity in multi-GPU systems, reports Neowin.
“This will allow developers to take advantage of multiple GPUs on a system with only minimal coding.”
DirectX 12 has actually allowed users to use any combination of graphics cards since its inception in the form of Explicit Multi Adaptor (EMA) support.
EMA allows DirectX 12 cards to work together, regardless of their maker and performance.
However, in order to make use of the feature, developers had to specifically code for it – meaning it was rarely (if ever) implemented.
With this new update, Multi-GPU setups could now be a serious alternative for PC gamers, but it’s important to note that it still requires some coding from developers (although not nearly as much as before).
There is no confirmed release for the new update but expect it some time before the end of the year.
