Free ADSL accounts with unlimited gaming

13 March 2014

Web Africa has discontinued their free 5GB ADSL trial account, and replaced it with a new free trial account structure that includes unlimited access to their FreeZone gaming content and game servers.

The new accounts are as follows:

  • 2GB per month for free: 1GB anytime data + 1GB “Download Plus” data (between 12am – 6am).
  • Limited to 1 per customer, lifetime access.
  • Users can do data top-ups on these accounts (R19 rollover).
  • Users can access FreeZone service.
  • Web Africa’s 5GB Free ADSL Trial is now discontinued and replaced with this new offering.
  • These new accounts are not a promotional offer and Web Africa intends to offer these indefinitely.

FreeZone gives users access to media content servers on Web Africa’s network, such as Steam game file servers, FTP file servers, and access to Web Africa’s gaming servers (operated under the WAGE brand) for titles such as Battlefield 3, Counter-Strike GO, and Minecraft.

Bandwidth usage for these services is not taken off a user’s available cap.

There are a few caveats:

  • The user must have available bandwidth on their Web Africa ADSL account.
  • Certain services may require a connection to locations external to Web Africa’s network (such as the Steam login servers and Call of Duty authentication servers). This data traffic does not fall under FreeZone and will count towards the user’s limit.

Not sure what one can do with 2GB free data these days, especially if you have access to their steam server. My free usage would be gobbled in a day.
