EA calls Wii a “legacy platform”

And today’s Epic Diss of the Day goes out to EA’s Frank Gibeau, who has bravely declared the Wii a “legacy platform” alongside the PS2, recklessly inviting the wrath of Super Mario Bros players all over the planet.

In an interview with Industry Gamers, Gibeau says that “When you look at Nintendo, for a while there it was all about the Wii being the biggest entertainment platform ever and capturing the mass market. Now, they’re coming back with a second act. I think they know that. They’re very self-aware as an organization and a very powerful brand.”

He goes on to explain that HD is now where the industry’s at, before dropping the diss-bomb with, “Legacy platforms like PS2 and the Wii have dropped off significantly. They’re not stupid. They’re going to figure something out. They’re going to come back at it.”

Rumour has it Nintendo is prepping a Wii 2 announcement for E3, but you didn’t hear that from me. Unless it’s true, obviously. In which case, you read it here first.
