Mortal Kombat Kollector’s Edition confirmed for SA

22 March 2011

Mortal Kombat (aka Mortal Kombat 9) is shaping up to be quite a good one for fans of the series and fans of fighting games in general. Mortal Kombat 9 revisits the universe of Mortal Kombat, MKII, and MK3 but retells the events of those games with an alternate history. This because Raiden, about to be killed by Shao Kahn, sends a message back in time to his past-self in a final attempt to prevent the destruction of all realities. As past Raiden tried to fathom the premonitions he is experiencing, so the events unfold differently.

The game is being developed by NetherRealm studios, which was born of the ashes of WB Games Chicago, which was previously Midway Games. Series co-creator Ed Boon leads the studio, and promises that Mortal Kombat 9 will focus heavily on the characters and story, while also delivering a polished and in-depth fighting system that will entice veterans of the series. Rendered in 3D, the game will be fixed in the 2.5D side on classic fighter style.

With the promising re-invention of this classic franchise on the horizon, MyGaming decided to catch up with local distributor NuMetro, who confirmed that we will be receiving the Mortal Kombat Kollector’s Edtion at South African retail.

The Kollector’s Edtion will launch alongside the standard version, on 29 April 2011, for Xbox 360 and PS3. The recommended retail price will be R799 on both platforms. Unfortunately NuMetro could not disclose how many units were going to be arriving on our shores, but one can rest assured it will likely be ‘limited.’

Below are the contents of the Mortal Kombat Kollector’s Edition that SA stores will be receiving. The PS3 version obviously won’t be receiving any Avatars, but will be including playable character Kratos from the God of War series as an exclusive.
