Red Faction: Armageddon dev wants players to “destroy everything in sight”

28 March 2011

If there’s one thing I know about human beings, it’s that we usually have skin. If there’s another thing I know about human beings, it’s that we love blowing stuff up.

Most of us never really get to live the dream, of course, and have to make do with vicarious big bang ba-da-booms through experiential facilitators like video games. That’s not about to change, unfortunately, but at least we’re getting another go at it with Red Faction: Armageddon. Let your inner wannabe demolitions expert be unconfined!

“In Guerrilla there was a kind of moral issue. When you were destroying buildings, you thought, ‘Should I really be doing this?’ But in Armageddon we’ve completely thrown that out and we’re basically motivating players to destroy everything in sight,” production lead Dan Sutton tells CVG. “This works especially well now that we have the repair tool. Not only can you tear everything down, you can also build it back up.

If you see a destroyed bridge, you can rebuild it and maybe reach a secret area. And if you get trapped, you can always repair the path that you destroyed.”

But can you destroy it again after rebuilding it? Again and again and oh, it feels so good and it makes the voices stop?
Red Faction: Armageddon is scheduled to destroy everything on 31 May.
