MyBroadband recently reported that Telkom was planning to upgrade 512Kbps ADSL subscribers’ speeds to 1Mbps.
To date Telkom did not provide details about the planned DSL512 speed upgrades, but the company did confirm that the upgrade was on the table.
Telkom CEO Pinky Moholi also told MyBroadband in March 2011 that they are looking at enhancing their DSL512 offering, and a free upgrade to 1 Mbps therefore makes perfect sense.
Some 512 Kbps ADSL subscribers have now informed MyBroadband that their lines have been upgraded to 1Mbps. Uplink speeds were also upgraded – from the usual 256Kbps to 512Kbps.
One DSL512 subscriber based in Cape Town’s City Bowl region reported that his line had been bumped up to 1Mbps last night. Another subscriber in Durban’s Sherwood area also confirmed the upgrade.
Numerous other subscribers in Gauteng, Cape Town, Durban and Port Elizabeth also confirmed that their 512 Kbps connections have been upgraded to 1Mbps.
Telkom was contacted regarding this issue, but the company could not immediately comment.
