‘Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed’ video game revealed

23 March 2022

In a press release yesterday, Illfonic finally confirmed the existence of a new Ghostbusters video game that will be released at the end of 2022.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will be a 4v1 multiplayer game that will give players the option of becoming a wannabe Ghostbuster or even the ghost itself.

“Ghostbusters is one of the most beloved IPs in the world, so we are pulling out all the stops to make something special and accessible to this diverse fanbase,” said the CEO of Illfonic Charles Brungardt.

“If you’re someone who loves the movies or asymmetrical multiplayer games, this was made for you.”

The game will feature the return of Ernie Hudson as Winston Zeddemore and Dan Aykroyd as Ray Stantz, who will share their knowledge and experience with the new recruits.

If you choose to become one of the four members of the new generation of Ghostbusters, you’ll be able to customize your character to suit your personality with a variety of body types, hairstyles, and jumpsuits.

You will prepare for each match in the iconic firehouse, where you’ll be able to upgrade abilities and equipment such as the Particle Thrower, Ghost Trap, and the trusty PKE meter.

As the ghost, however, you’ll be haunting instead of hunting as you choose from a variety of different ghosts that all have unique abilities and attacks aimed at stopping the Ghostbusters.

Each Ghost’s abilities will also be upgradable as you haunt various locations such as the sewers, mansions, museums, and prisons.

Ghostbusters: Spirits Unleashed will launch on PlayStation, Xbox, and PC through the Epic Games Store.

The game will also support cross-play so you and your friends can experience this ghostbusting throwback together, no matter the platform you choose to play on.
