Return to Monkey Island will be the latest Monkey Island title, following the previous games Secret of Monkey Island and Monkey Island 2: LeChuck’s Revenge.
The project was announced by the original series creator Ron Gilbert on 1 April in a blog post and was later confirmed by Devolver Digital and Lucasfilm Games to be more than just an April Fools joke.
According to Gilbert, the game has been in development for the past two years at the development studio Terrible Toybox.
Dominic Armato is returning as the protagonist Guybrush Threepwood’s original voice actor, and the series’ co-creator Dave Grossman will help Gilbert lead the project.
The game is set to have an excellent art direction since Lex Crowle, who helped design games like Tearaway and LittleBigPlanet, is the art director.
Michael Land, Peter McConnel, and Clint Bajakian are also returning to compose Return to Monkey Island’s score.
If you are curious about what you can possibly expect from the new Monkey Island game, Ron Gilbert’s 2013 blog post titled “If I Made Another Monkey Island” could hold some clues.
