Lord of the Rings IP to be acquired by Embracer Group

Embracer Group has announced its intention to acquire multiple businesses and IPs through its subsidiary Embracer Freemode.

These acquisitions include Limited Run Games, Stingtrix, Tripwire Interactive, and Middle-earth Enterprises, which consists of the IP rights to The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit literary works.

This comes after Embracer has completed the acquisition of Tuxedo Labs – the developer of Teardown.

Embracer Freemode will focus on six market segments: Retro/Classic/Heritage Gaming & Entertainment, Game Development & Production, Devices, Gear & Collectables, Community & Ecommerce, New Idea & Technology Incubation and Production Services.

The indicated acquisitions will aid in producing content for the above segments.

Notably, the acquisition of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbits IP rights could lead to new and exciting games set in the world.
